The Allegany County Green Party opposes House Bill 965, which aims to keep wages depressed in Allegany and Garrett Counties, which are two of the poorest counties in the state. Delegates Beitzel, Buckel, and McKay are sponsoring this legislation to benefit both their personal and their donor’s businesses.
The Western Maryland delegation and the Allegany County commissioners have continuously failed to bring jobs into the area. Their failure has fueled the population and and workforce to further decline, while they simultaneously increase the tax burden (via increased property assessments) on the working class citizens who remain.
The Western Maryland delegation, the Allegany County Commissioners, and the “Change Annapolis” agenda are turning Allegany and Garrett counties into a feudal system of haves and have-nots.
Wherever the minimum wage has increased, economic development has increased because people have more money to spend on things other than housing, food, and utilities.
The minimum wage is not livable and has failed to keep up with inflation, ultimately resulting in declining wages.
